I spent nine years and six months inside the VPN industry. I worked at a company that was genuinely no-log and genuinely meant it. We didn't just put "no logs" on a banner — we backed it up, passed independent audits, and lived the mission. The people I worked with believed in privacy and security online, deeply. It wasn't marketing to us. It was the point.

And because of where I sat, I knew something most buyers never get to see: I knew which of our "no-log" competitors were lying about it. Not guessing — we had the proof. Companies making the exact same promise we kept, while quietly doing the opposite.

Here's the part that got to me: it didn't matter.

I ran the affiliate program. So I had a front-row seat to how the rankings get built — the "top 10 VPNs," the "we tested them all," the lists that show up when a scared, non-technical person searches for help. They are not ordered by which product is safest, fastest, or most honest. They're ordered by which company pays the most. I watched providers I knew were lying about logging buy their way to the #1 slot. I watched review sites wave it through because the checks cleared.

So I left to build the opposite of what I'd been part of.

What VPN Insider does differently

It ranks VPNs by what real users actually say — thousands of them, scored transparently — instead of by who writes the biggest commission check. The affiliate money is walled off from the ranking; it physically cannot move a product up the list. We lead with the renewal prices the other sites bury behind a "from $1.99/month" teaser. We show the negatives even on VPNs we earn from. And we update it all monthly, in the open, with the method published. To be clear: I'm not anti-affiliate. I funded a real privacy mission with affiliate revenue for almost ten years — it can absolutely coexist with doing right by people. I'm anti-lying. The money can exist without buying the verdict. That's the entire bet of this site, and it's the one position the bought-ranking giants can't copy — because copying it would mean dismantling how they make money.

I know this industry from the inside — the good companies that quietly keep their word, and the ones that lie for a payout. That insider view is exactly why this site can do what the others won't. It's the whole point.
