VPNInsider Independent · affiliate-funded · rankings not for sale

The VPN ranking that
isn't for sale.

Every mainstream "best VPN" list ranks whoever pays the biggest commission. We rank by what thousands of real users actually say — and we show you the renewal price the others bury.

Proof we mean it: the VPN we rank #1 — Mullvad — pays us $0 in commission. We rank it first anyway.

The problem

You're being optimized against.

Two compromised sources steer VPN buyers: vendors marketing themselves as "honest," and affiliate sites that rank whoever pays most. The result is bought rankings and hidden renewal prices — aimed squarely at the non-technical person just trying to protect their privacy.

How much NordVPN's Basic plan jumps at renewal vs its 2-year intro rate.

#1 = $$$

On most "best VPN" lists, the top slot tracks commission size, not product quality.

What Mullvad — the VPN we rank #1 on real-user sentiment — pays us in commission. We rank it first anyway.

Two tools, one principle: show people the truth

What the bought sites won't put first.

VPN Sentiment Index

VPNs ranked by a blend of two sources — informed power-user sentiment + mainstream App Store ratings — scored transparently, with commission provably walled off.

Why trust us

“I worked inside one of the major VPN companies. I know the mechanic firsthand: the mainstream ‘best VPN’ rankings track commission size, not product quality — the highest bidder wins the #1 slot. VPNinsider inverts that. The ranking input is real user sentiment at scale, and commission is structurally barred from influencing position. The proof is sitting at the top of our list: Mullvad, the VPN we rank #1, pays us nothing — and we rank it first anyway.”

How it works

Independence you can verify.

The commission firewall

Affiliate payout data is physically separated from the ranking engine — it never enters the scoring. We earn commissions, disclosed; we just don't let them buy position. We show negatives even on VPNs we earn from — and we rank #1 a VPN, Mullvad, that pays us nothing.

Real sentiment, scored openly

We aggregate public user posts via official APIs (never bulk-scraped), filter spam and promo, and score sentiment toward each VPN by theme. Thin data is labeled "limited," not faked. Methodology is public.

The real price, renewal-first

Every cost is the renewal price, sourced and dated — the number vendors and affiliate sites bury behind a "from $1.99/mo" teaser.

Updated monthly, not real time

Once a month we re-pull posts, re-score sentiment, and re-verify every price — so figures stay stable, auditable, and dated rather than silently stale.
